Far from the Madding Crowd describes Heatherdown’s position, not only by overlooking one of Thomas Hardy’s valleys, but also by its remote location. Ravens and buzzards abound by day, badgers and deer at night. Situated on the edge of the Purbecks, and close to the renown Jurassic Coast (Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door are less than 8 miles away) it is the ideal location for visiting Dorset’s well-known attractions. The site is spacious with glorious views, and is situated off a small country road. There is a local shop half a mile away, and a good choice of pubs in the area. There are plenty of places to walk or cycle close by offering forest/heathland areas, or coastal hills. Two stables are available for riders wishing to bring their own horses.
