Keen cyclists will appreciate that we’re adjacent to the cycle path into Lincoln with its secure cycle storage, allowing you to explore the city on foot. There are quiet country lanes and gravel tracks to explore and Sustrans routes will take you west to Clumber Park and east, joining up with the Water Railway trail, to Woodhall Spa and, if you’re feeling particularly energetic, all the way to Boston. Doddington Hall with its farm shop, two coffee shops, two restaurants, gardens, homeware and clothing store. Lincoln city boasts a rich and captivating history dating back to Roman times. Explore the magnificent Cathedral, once the tallest building in the world, with its awe-inspiring Gothic architecture and stained glass windows. Delve into the medieval past of Lincoln Castle where you can walk the ramparts, climb the Lucy Tower, and learn about the Magna Carta. Walk up Lincoln's Steep Hill, the fourth steepest street in the country, with its independent boutiques, tea rooms and pubs, which connects the historic Cathedral Quarter with the modern city centre below where you can admire the historic High Bridge, the oldest bridge in the UK still with buildings upon it. Lincoln is also the perfect base for exploring the stunning Lincolnshire Wolds, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with rolling hills and charming villages. Head west into Nottinghamshire to the market town of Newark with its independent shops and tea rooms. Visit the 12th century Newark castle where King John died in 1216, and the award winning National Civil War Centre to immerse yourself in the history of the English Civil War. We also recommend a visit to the picturesque town of Southwell with its high street lined with independent shops, cafes, and plenty of pubs. Be sure to take in Southwell Minster, considered one of the finest Romanesque buildings in Europe with its magnificent twin "pepperpot" spires and intricate carvings. On the outskirts of Southwell is The Workhouse, a National Trust property and now a museum showcasing the lives of those who lived and worked there in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Also within easy reach is the historic town of Stamford, Sherwood Forest, National Trust and English Heritage properties along with privately owned stately homes such as Belvoir Castle and Burghley House. AVIATION HERITAGE Whether you're a history buff or an aviation enthusiast, Lincolnshire's aviation heritage will fascinate and inspire you.
