Club members get stuck in to harvest

At Moat Farm in Suffolk, Henry Dobell relies on about 40 Cararvan & Motorhome Club members to pick 250 tons of Cox apples every year off 26 acres of orchard.  I’ve been advertising in the Club Magazine for 15 years now, and we have a loyal bunch of pickers who bring their own vans to our farm.   They have a dedicated pitching area (away from the CL) and Henry adds that the picking crew must do it because they enjoy it and not for the money as he only pays the minimum wage!

The apple harvest starts in September and they continues with sorting and packing right  through to the new year.  Most of the apples go into local independent grocers rather than supermarkets, but the apples that don’t make the grade produce about 25,000 bottles of apple juice.

If you just want to visit the CL, it offers EHU, hard or grass pitches with plenty of space, a WC and shower, dog walking and a lovely walk to nearby villages and pubs.  The site has 5-star reviews, charges £17.50 with no extras and has good availability over the coming months.
